Feeding Lilly
Lilly is a American Alligator. She is
five feet long and weighs about 60 pounds. According to
Wikipedia: An alligator is a
crocodilian in the genus Alligator of the family
Alligatoridae. There are two extant alligator
species the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) and the
Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis).
Below is a video of the lovely Adele Ashley Peoples feeding
Lilly in the Clark's Fish Camp Gator Exhbit called Lilly's
Pad. Ashley feeds Lilly during the Gators
active season. To find out when we will be feeding Lilly,
check our facebook page for feeding announcements.
In the advent of Fall we slow
down on feeding Lilly and drop the temperature in her
enclosure to simulate her being in the outside environment.
This causes Lilly to hibernate like she would in the wild.
Because Lilly is a reptile and therefore cold blodded, she
dosen't go to sleep like a bear when she hybernates, she just
slows down her activity and get very, very lethargic.
If you want to come see Ashly feed Lilly during the Fall and Winter
months, please check our facebook page for announcements of her
feedings.
